is a Green Sanctuary?
A Green Sanctuary is a congregation that lives out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable life style for its members as individuals and as a faith community.
Why is VUU involved?
The Green Sanctuary program is an organized way for us to focus and guide our VUU community in taking actions to live our 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
How does it work?
The steps to Green Sanctuary certification by the UU Ministry for Earth are:
- Form a Green Sanctuary committee (done)
- Conduct an environmental audit (done—see display board)
- Create an action plan
- Worship and Celebration
- Religious Education
- Environmental Justice
- Sustainable Living
- Apply for Green Sanctuary candidacy and complete action plan
- Apply for Green Sanctuary accredidation by submitting a report on how we completed our action plan
Who is involved?
Our Steering of is Rob Smith, Jeremy Russ, and Barb Termaat. All of our members wear a Green Sanctuary button with a green ribbon each Sunday.
When and Where does VUUGS meet?
